Shipman Youth Center carries on with Dmitry’s Feast of the Peaks and Music Festival
Kids attractions, music, raffle, food tastings and more
LAKE PLACID – Dmitry Feld passed away 19 months ago, but his presence remains in the Lake Placid community that he called home.
Feld was the marketing manager at USA Luge who created the annual barbecue and music festival nearly 20 years ago to raise money for the Shipman Youth Center. The event was rebranded last year as Dmitry’s Feast of the Peaks and Music Festival and will remain the same this year on Saturday, August 30 from 11 AM to 7 PM. It will take place at the North Elba Show Grounds on Rt. 73 in Lake Placid.
This year’s presenting sponsor is The Devlin Inn and Suites in Lake Placid.
“The youth center is Thomas Shipman's dream, while Dmitry and all the past volunteers over the past 25-30 years made the center a place for the youth of the community to gather with activities and receive mentorship,” said Mike Durham, President of the Shipman Youth Center Board of Directors and chief organizer for the upcoming festival. “As the proverb goes, ‘It takes a community to raise a child,’ and it’s with that in mind that we continue with this fundraiser.”
Among the highlights of the day: this year’s festival will feature an international tasting with Greek, Polish, Peruvian, Italian fare and more. Local restaurants are providing the food. Entrance to the tasting is $20 per person. Also, there will be inflatables for the children as well as face-painting, balloon art and caricatures. A new attraction for festival attendees this year is Lizard Lady. Enjoy her interactive animal collection from 2-6 PM.
There will also be a raffle with a $3,000 grand prize. Tickets are $50 each and only 600 tickets will be printed.
The music schedule is as follows. Each act will perform for 45 minutes.
11 AM - Pat Duffy
12 PM – Larry Stone
1 PM – Last Pages
2 PM – Sven Curth
3 PM – Triage
4 PM – All Without The Bass
5 PM – Jacques Kuno
6 PM – Carl Rubino
