Creative Healing Connections (CHC) will host the Mad Hatter’s Ball, an evening of music, munchies, and mad hats on Wednesday Nov. 1 at 5:30pm at the Hotel Saranac Great Hall. The Mad Hatter’s Ball is Creative Healing Connections’ biggest annual fundraiser and a way to honor an individual that has struggled with cancer or chronic illness.

This year the event will honor Kristin Finn, a Saranac Lake native and Registered Nurse with Adirondack Health. Kristin was first diagnosed with Stage II invasive breast cancer in 2003 after finding a small lump during a self-breast exam. A mammogram showed there were two small tumors present. After completing treatment, Kristin remained cancer-free until 2020, when a routine mammogram detected changes, a new Stage II invasive cancer in the same area previously treated.

“The importance of regular self-exams and mammograms cannot be understated,” says Kristin, “I was first diagnosed at an atypical age for breast cancer, especially as there was no family history. Routine mammograms weren’t recommended for my age group, and I am thankful that my primary care provider recommended a full workup after finding the first lump. With my second diagnosis, the tumor was not easily palpated, and if not for my annual mammogram, today we would have a different story. I am honored and humbled to be honored this year by Creative Healing Connections and applaud the important work they do and services they provide.”
Attendees are encouraged to wear their best crazy hats and join an evening of fun including a silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, live music, and prizes for best hats. All proceeds from the event support wellness retreats for women veterans and women suffering from cancer or chronic illness.
